On 8 June 2026, the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA), in partnership with the Basel Institute on Governance, organized a “Youth Against Corruption Exchange” in Basel, Switzerland. The event brought together youth volunteers from the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) of the Republic of Moldova, experts, academics and students from Basel for an exchange on corruption challenges of today and the role of young people in addressing them. The exchange was organized on the margins of the Basel Institute’s 6th International Collective Action Conference, which was attended by the youth volunteers and a representative from the NAC.

The exchange provided the youth volunteers with an opportunity to engage with experts from the Basel Institute on Governance and learn about the Institute’s anti-corruption initiatives, including in Moldova, as well as its research and innovation projects and asset recovery work. The volunteers also had the opportunity to meet with the Student Union of the University of Basel, a PhD researcher at the university, and a representative from the Botnar Foundation to discuss a wide range of topics, including the role of universities as democratic spaces, youth participation in integrity initiatives, and the contribution of technology to transparency and accountability. The day concluded with a discussion on young people as agents of change, highlighting approaches to promoting integrity in the education sector and fostering meaningful youth participation in governance processes.

At the International Collective Action Conference, the volunteers and the NAC representative had the chance to engage with leading anti-corruption and compliance professionals, private sector representatives, policymakers, and civil society experts. The panels and discussions focused on emerging trends and innovative approaches to strengthening business integrity and fair market conditions through anti-corruption Collective Action, which involves sustained, constructive collaboration between stakeholders to solve shared compliance and integrity challenges.

Connections established during the visit with students, researchers, and practitioners from different countries serve as a valuable foundation for future collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and peer-to-peer learning on anti-corruption and integrity issues. NAC volunteers expressed interest in pursuing a follow-up exchange with students from Ghana, building on a discussion initiated at the conference and potentially contributing to an international youth network committed to promoting integrity and combating corruption.

This activity was conducted as part of the OCEEA extrabudgetary project "Supporting Anti-Corruption Efforts of the Government of Moldova", financially supported by Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, and Slovakia.
