Moldova and Ukraine reduce Dniester water releases to 60 cubic metres per second as hydrological crisis deepens
The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine continue their joint response to the deepening hydrological crisis in the Dniester River Basin. On 28 August 2026, the Commission on Sustainable Use and Protection of the Dniester River Basin (Dniester Commission) held its sixth extraordinary meeting of the year, in a virtual format, to review the latest hydrological data and forecasts, and to set a new water release regime for the Dniester hydropower complex.

Project Update
Young people unite to shape the future of the Dniester River Basin
For more than sixteen years, the Dniester Youth Summer School has demonstrated that a shared river can bring people together across borders, communities and generations. Since 2008, the initiative has inspired hundreds of young people to learn about protecting one of Europe's most important transboundary rivers while promoting dialogue, trust and co-operation across the basin.
