The Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) organized an event on “Anticipating the Future of Finance: Strengthening Economic Security through Effective Governance of Virtual Assets” on 11 September in Prague, on the margins of the Concluding Meeting of the 32nd OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum (EEF). The Forum, held on 10 and 11 September, focused on strengthening security and stability in the OSCE area by anticipating technologies and science-based diplomacy.

The event brought together experts and practitioners to discuss how governments and institutions can respond to the rapidly evolving virtual asset landscape while fostering innovation and mitigating financial crime risks. Discussions addressed emerging challenges in digital finance, the importance of forward-looking governance frameworks, international co-operation and public-private partnerships, as well as the role of science-based policymaking and new technologies in strengthening economic security and institutional resilience.

During the EEF, the OCEEA also screened a short video presenting the Virtual Assets Project and its work across the OSCE region, highlighting the project’s support to participating States in addressing money-laundering and other financial crime risks associated with virtual assets.

The event was organized under the OSCE ExB project “Innovative policy solutions to mitigate money-laundering risks of virtual assets,” implemented by the OCEEA.
