The OSCE, in co-operation with the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) of the Republic of Moldova, organized the third Anti-Corruption Café, which aims to serve as an informal learning platform for young people and civil society on a range of corruption-related topics. This edition focused on understanding what virtual assets are, the risks they pose, how emerging digital technologies can be misused for corruption and money laundering, and what is the role of young people in mitigating these risks.
The event brought together NAC’s anti-corruption volunteers, students from the faculties of economics and finance in Chisinau, anti-corruption practitioners and virtual assets experts to delve into the rapidly evolving ecosystem of virtual assets and the nexus with corruption and other illicit activities. Through an expert-led discussion, participants were introduced to the basic concepts of virtual assets and blockchain technology, including their legitimate and illegal use.
The interactive format encouraged participants to engage directly with experts and exchange on how digital literacy and awareness among young people and civil society can strengthen resilience against emerging corruption risks.
The Anti-Corruption Café was conducted as a collaborative effort of two OSCE extrabudgetary projects: Innovative policy solutions to mitigate money-laundering risks of virtual assets, financially supported by Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, the United Kingdom and the United States of America; and Supporting Anti-Corruption Efforts of the Government of Moldova, financially supported by Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, and Slovakia.
