Digitalization

The Organization helps participating States deal with digital transformation through training, awareness-raising and best practice exchange on the use of modern digital tools, such as open data, digital upskilling for women entrepreneurs and smart port technologies.

Overview

Sharing the benefits of digital transformation equitably

Daily technological progress has led to the digital transformation of the global economy, strongly impacting all aspects of our lives and our economic security. New technologies that underpin the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’, are having a major impact on governance, business, trade and transport, as well as the form of employment, working time and space. Beyond significant lifestyle changes, these technologies are leading to the formation of new economic models and forms of governance. The emerging and fast-evolving implications of this digital transformation are not only leading to progress and prosperity but also to the emergence of new or enhanced security threats and challenges. In this context, it is crucial to address the growing digital divide and ensure that no one is left behind, so that the benefits of digital transformation can be shared equitably across all segments of society.

Our work

Our thematic and programmatic tasks

The OSCE helps its participating States respond to the challenges and opportunities of the digital transformation by building their capacity to increase transparency and accountability in public administration at the national and local levels, and by making the best use of smart port technologies to promote trade facilitation and sustainable connectivity. It emphasizes the use of innovative digital tools to prevent corruption and foster a positive investment climate in the OSCE region by enhancing capacities and enabling the exchange of good practices in the presentation, analysis and monitoring of open data (government information that is accessible and reusable). Furthermore, it provides digital upskilling for women entrepreneurs.

The Organization works closely with all stakeholders in this field, including public and private sector representatives, academia, civil society and other international organizations.
